This streamer of dust and gas prevents us from seeing the objects behind it. Such dark clouds are responsible for many astronomical phenomena. The Horsehead Nebula, for example, is a dark cloud blocking an emission nebula. Although gas and dust are in this region of the molecular cloud, density does not fluctuate enough to produce a stellar nursery, as in the cloud core.
